Directorate of National Statistics of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) supported by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) concluded today a six days training on Population and Housing Census for the ministry staff and other government agencies.
In addition to ongoing activities on population and socio-economics, more than twenty five personnel have participated the first phase of Population and Housing Census to promote substantive knowledge and improve statistical capacities on population.
Directorate of National Statistics of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation supported by development partners, has been collecting and compiling data on population and social characteristics. With the technical assistance of UNFPA, the directorate completed first population data in 40 years and it is now working on conduction a Population and Housing Census. Working with World Bank, the directorate also completed the first wave of High Frequency Survey and is now working on country wide household survey, market price and exchange rate. These and more activities that are underway provide hand-on-training and professional development for the ministry staff in the field of statistics for better data.
Thus, the Population and Housing Census training is part of an ongoing initiatives to strengthen the capacities of staff and ensure up-to-date population data that allow authorities plan and make decision on various social sectors and follow trends such as mortality and fertility, understand social behavior, measure progress and ensure accountability.
