The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation held practical training programon development planning approach regarding the National Development Plan (2017 – 2019) for the line ministries of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Training was facilitated by MOPIC, supported by UNDP Somalia on behalf of the International Partners. The training was scheduled for three days and was conducted by DR. Hashim Al Ali, a development expert hired for the development of the NDP. The main objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of the planning departments of the Federal Government staff in the line ministries as well as regional focal points.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, H.E Abdi Dirshe addressed the participants in his opening remarks, underscoring the importance of this workshop “ This training is very crucial for planning departments of the Regional and Federal Ministries, It’s part of the efforts to equipment the government staff the knowledge to develop their own plan.” He further highlighted the commitment of the Somali government, “ the President has asked the cabinet to undertake the development of the National Development Plan and the Council of Ministers have unanimously endorsed it.”
The UNDP Somalia Country Director, Mr. George Conway has attended the opening session and emphasized the importance of developing a Somali-led National development Plan “ This workshop is vital for planning departments in order for them to initiate and design the Somali priorities under this National Development Plan, it enhances Somali leadership and ownership.”
After this training, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation is set to initiate a national consultation process as the National Development is participatory and the government will facilitate the self development of the society.
