RNE Bilateral Stabilization program Steering Committee meeting

The Deputy Ambassador of Norway to Somalia opened the meeting thanking Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MOPIED) for their cooperation in the procurement process to select an implementer for embassy’s new three-year Programme in Somalia. He noted that the collaboration set a good tone for a strong partnership between the government of Norway and the government of Somalia.

The Deputy  Ambassador gave a brief overview of the main pillars of Norway’s bilateral engagement in Somalia, including ongoing activities aiming at mapping the possibilities of starting up a OfD-program, and underlined the need to ensure that the Norwegian engagement is in line with Somalia’s priorities.

H.E Minister of Planning Gamal Hassan opened his comments by expressing his satisfaction to see the Norwegian programme that would be focusing on how renewable energy technologies can be used in the creation of employment and new resources for the country. He noted that these priorities will help to support the aims of Somalia’s National Development Plan (NDP).

alaspresentation1H.E Minister Gamal “Somalia is currently facing many challenges that needs to be tackled urgently and simultaneously, these might include security, peace, reconciliation and state building. But there is also major economic issue for Somalia which is electricity” he said in his remarks. “No investment in Somalia could pay the social, environmental, and economic dividends that improvements in electricity services can pay” he added.

This programme has a strategy to assist local authorities to deliver infrastructural improvements that directly impact on the livelihoods of the people they are governing in order, to create stability. The programme assisted local authorities to engage with targeted communities to establish solar streetlight systems in the districts of Wadajir Benadir and Afgoye. The program has different components including Labour intensive projects and Youth Technical Vocational Education Training Component called TVET.

 

Aid Information Management Workshop held in Mogadishu

The workshop was conveyed by the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development. After a presentation of the objectives,  UNDP presented the conclusions of the aid information management review carried out in 2015 as well as the methodology and results of the aid mapping exercises carried out in the last years in Somalia under the leadership of the Aid Coordination Unit. The international consultant Matthew Geddes presented later the process of procurement by UNDP of a new Somali-led and Somali-owned Aid Information Management System in Somalia, which draws on the recommendations of the aid information management review. The key features and technical specifications of the new AIMS –in terms of ownership, accessibility, data collection, management, disaggregation and visualization, reporting, dissemination of information, etc.

The workshop gathered representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia (Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development MOPIED &  Aid Coordination Unit), as well as Federal Member states of Galmudug, Hirshabelle and South-West State and the Banadir Regional Administration.

Main objective of the workshop was to engage, inform and discuss with key federal and sub-federal Somali institutional stakeholders on the development of a new Aid Information Management System in Somalia.DSC_0016

The Minister of Planning meets with Swedish Ambassador to Somalia

The Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia H.E Jamal meets with the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia H.E Mikael Lindvall and discussed the implementation of the NDP, London Conferencing and investment in Somalia.
The Minister addressed that Federal Government of Somalia is ready to start the implementation of the National development Plan. The minister said “The FGS renews its commitment to peacebuilding and statebuilding goals and will engage in long-term development planning that reflects Somali priorities.”
On other note, Somalia has turned the corner from recent turmoil and is ready to resume its historical role as the Gateway and Business Center of Africa and the Indian Ocean & Red Sea corridor.
The Minister added ” The Investment Promotion department at the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Republic of Somalia, is a one-stop shop that provides comprehensive information, advisory and assistance to all foreign investors. This service, coupled with our countries competitive investment law and abundant natural resources as well as human capital, warrants Somalia’s readiness for Investment”

The Minister of Planning meets with UNDP Regional Director for Arab States

 

UN Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator who is the UNDP Regional Director for Arab States, Mr. Mourad Wahba met the Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development H.E Jamal Hassan at his office to discuss the implementation of the NDP.

Mr. Wahba reaffirmed the commitment of the UN to the economic development and state-building in Somalia. Mr. Wahba said, “we are ready to assist Somalia with its economic and state-building strategies”

The Minister addressed that Federal Government of Somalia is ready to start the implementation of the National development Plan. The national NGO policy launched

The Somali ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development launched the national NGO policy in a two days workshop held at the Jazeera hotel.ngo4

The workshop was attended by representatives from the federal states, international consultants and the ministry of planning, investment and economic development which was responsible for drafting the policy.ngo1

and finally, the federal states and the federal government have agreed that the NGO policies in all parties have to be harmonized

The new minister officially takes over the office.

The new minister of the ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development officially assumes the office in a ceremony took place in the conference hall of the ministry.takeover

The event was attended by the former minister of planning H.E. Abdirahman Ainte, the new minister H.E. Jamal Mohamed Hassan, the deputy Somali prime minister, guests and the ministry stuff.
